Stars race past Wayland Baptist 11-1

OCU becomes first NAIA team to reach 40 wins this season

PLAINVIEW, Texas – The Oklahoma City University baseball team completed a three game sweep of Wayland Baptist (Texas) after an 11-1 run-rule victory on Friday at David and Myrt Wilder Field.
Oklahoma City, ranked No. 2 in the NAIA, produced double digit runs in a game for the 23rd time this season to move to 40-5, 17-1 in Sooner Athletic Conference play. The Stars are the first NAIA team to reach 40 wins this season.
OCU scored single runs in each of the first two innings on RBI single from Cory Linn and a wild pitch to jump ahead 2-0.
Oklahoma City added a run in the fourth on a sacrifice fly from Skyler Bean to plate Linn.
The Pioneers answered with a run in the fourth, but Stars' pitcher Roberto Delgado closed the door and didn't allow a run the rest of the way.
Delgado, a junior out of Killeen, Texas, picked up the win for OCU after pitching 6.1 innings while allowing four hits, one run and striking out six.
The Stars blew the game open with five runs in the top of the fifth. After Lane Milligan and Shaun Corso hit RBI singles, Hunter Aguirre delivered the big blow with a two-RBI triple to center to push the lead to 8-1.
Aguirre, a junior from Oklahoma City, finished the day 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored while Milligan, a junior from Englewood, Colo., went 3-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI.
OCU added another run in the sixth when Jerame Littell lifted his eighth home run of the season over the center field wall.
Back-to-back RBI doubles from Branden Grieger and Joe Lytle scored the final two runs for OCU and allowed them to pick up their seventh win via run-rule this season.
Oklahoma City has now won 22 of its last 23 games and are on top of the SAC standings with just two weeks left in the regular season.
OCU steps outside conference play for a road matchup with Friends (Kan.) in Wichita, Kan., Tuesday at 6 p.m.
