OCU tramples Bacone 5-0, 11-1

No. 2-ranked Stars rack up 16th consecutive win

MUSKOGEE, Okla. – Oklahoma City University cruised past Bacone 5-0 and 11-1 on Saturday at Warrior Field.
Shaun Corso topped the Stars with four hits, while Cory Linn led OCU with five RBIs on the day. Oklahoma City, ranked second in NAIA baseball, improved to 35-4, 12-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
In the first game, OCU put together a three-run second inning. Branden Grieger sparked the Stars' uprising with an RBI double to left field. Hunter Aguirre added a run-scoring base hit, while Joe Lytle hit a sacrifice fly into center field.
Garrett Foster socked an RBI single in the third, and Jared Baker nailed a run-scoring single in the fourth.
Lytle, a junior from Yukon, Okla., went 2-for-3, doubled, scored a run, stole a base and drove in a run, while Foster, a junior from Ardmore, Okla., was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Linn, a senior from Moore, Okla., doubled leading off the second.
J.R. Holloway, Matt Young and Ken Williams combined on the shutout. Young, a junior right-hander from Glendora, Calif., started, threw six innings and struck out 10. Young (6-1) limited Bacone to four hits. Williams, a senior left-hander from Renton, Wash., got the first out of the seventh. Holloway, a junior righty from Grapevine, Texas, closed the game on the mound.
In the second game, Linn went 2-for-4 with a double and five RBIs, and Corso, a junior from Lancaster, Pa., was 3-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs. Baker, a senior from Edmond, Okla., had a 2-for-5 performance with two runs scored and two RBIs.
OCU ran its winning string to 16 games, scored in double figures for the 22nd time and posted at least 10 hits for the 30th game this year.
Mark Simon snared the victory, moving to 7-0 on the year. Simon, a senior right-hander from Houston, fanned seven in 4.1 innings of one-hit ball. Bryce Milligan went two thirds of an inning, while Holden Lyons and Tyler Milligan each worked an inning. That group held Bacone scoreless through six innings.
The Stars square off with third-ranked Oklahoma Wesleyan at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Bartlesville, Okla.
