Stars reach 20 wins for 19th consecutive season

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University secured its 19th consecutive 20-win season with an 81-62 victory over Texas Wesleyan on Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena.
Daniela Wallen, a senior from Caracas, Venezuela, propelled the Stars with 27 points and 13 rebounds. Oklahoma City, ranked seventh in NAIA Division I women's basketball, moved to 20-2, 11-1 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Wallen sank 11 of her 14 field-goal attempts. She posted her 12th double-double in 22 games this season and 26th double-double in 40 career contests for OCU.
The Stars seized a 14-2 early lead as Wallen rang up seven points. Daniela Galindo, Wallen and NaShyla Hammons buried 3-pointers to spark OCU.
Oklahoma City owned a 43-27 rebounding advantage. The Stars have outrebounded the competition 16 times in 22 games in 2016-17.
"We had another great start by our team," OCU coach Bo Overton said. "I thought Daniela Wallen was very focused from the start. We went into the game talking about how we were going to rebound well, and I thought we did."
Hammons, a freshman from Oklahoma City, collected 14 points and seven rebounds while shooting 5-for-6 from the field. Allison Frey, a junior from Mustang, Okla., tallied nine points, while Galindo, a junior from Shattuck, Okla., added eight points and three assists.
The Stars' Janae Haag, a senior from Olpe, Kan., stuffed the stat sheet with six points, four rebounds, three assists and two blocked shots. Mariana Duran, a senior from Yaracuy, Venezuela, contributed five points, five rebounds and three steals while dishing out a team-best seven assists.
Wallen downed free throws for the Stars' largest advantage of the day 57-23 at the 6:16 mark of the third quarter.
