Stars sail past Bacone 70-43

Sixth-ranked OCU advances to 3 p.m. SAC Tournament semifinal vs. Mid-America Christian

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University ousted Bacone 70-43 on Tuesday night at Abe Lemons Arena in the Sooner Athletic Conference women's basketball tournament quarterfinals.
Daniela Wallen powered the Stars with 24 points. Oklahoma City (27-2) advanced to face Mid-America Christian at 3 p.m. Friday in the SAC Tournament semifinals at Abe Lemons Arena.
Wallen, a senior from Caracas, Venezuela, provided OCU with nine rebounds, five assists and five steals. Brooke Irwin, a junior from Mustang, Okla., contributed 12 points and six rebounds on 6-of-7 shooting from the field, and Daniela Galindo, a junior from Shattuck, Okla., chipped in 10 points and five assists.
OCU shot 60 percent from the floor in securing its 13th consecutive victory. Janae Haag sank a free throw to give the Stars their largest advantage at 62-31 with 6:15 remaining in the fourth quarter.
"The ability to get easy shots is huge," OCU coach Bo Overton said. "I think that's what Brooke gives us. Of course Daniela is going to get us easy shots. No question Brooke is a great weapon for us, and she played very well again today."
The Stars limited Bacone to a 23-percent field-goal percentage. OCU held an opponent below 30 percent shooting from the field for the ninth time this season and fourth time in the past five games.
Oklahoma City improved to 15-0 this season at Abe Lemons Arena. OCU has a 20-game winning streak at home.
"Any time we can sleep in our own beds and play in our home court is an advantage," Overton said. "We need to come out and get off to a good start Friday."
