OCU routs Central Baptist 56-0

Ambriz, King gain falls for eighth-ranked Stars

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University rolled past Central Baptist (Ark.) 56-0 on Thursday at Abe Lemons Arena.
The Stars posted their seventh shutout ever and reached 50 points for the fifth time in program history. Oklahoma City, ranked eighth in NAIA wrestling, concluded the dual season 12-5.
OCU will look to qualify individuals for the NAIA Championships in the NAIA South Qualifying Tournament at 9 a.m. Feb. 18 in Ottawa, Kan. The top three finishers at each weight will earn bids into the national tournament March 3-4 in Topeka, Kan.
Eric Ambriz and Jacob King picked up falls for the Stars. Ambriz, a senior from Lake Elsinore, Calif., notched his third pin of the season in 1:51 over Tony Bustos in the 141-pound match. King, a senior from Rio Rancho, N.M., earned his fifth fall of 2016-17 in 1:57 over Zach Kearney in the 197-pound bout.
OCU's James Landoll racked up three four-point near falls in a 16-0 dismantling of Michael Cunningham at 141. Landoll, a senior from Maryville, Kan., added two takedowns before finishing the match in 4:02.
Bryson McGowan secured a 6-3 victory by snatching takedowns in the second and third periods vs. Francisco Joseph in the heavyweight match.
The Stars benefited from six forfeits by Central Baptist.
