OCU vs. Bacone women's basketball preview

Stars put seven-game win streak on line

THE MATCHUP:
Oklahoma City University takes to the road for a league matchup with Bacone.

ABOUT THE STARS: The Stars pasted 20th-ranked John Brown (Ark.) 78-59 on Thursday at Abe Lemons Arena. OCU (21-2, 12-1 Sooner Athletic Conference) remained unbeaten against ranked foes this season, improving to 6-0.
Daniela Wallen, a 5-foot-11 senior from Caracas, Venezuela, racked up 30 points, eight rebounds, three assists and six steals. She turned in the sixth 30-point performance of the season, three of which have come against ranked opponents. Wallen supplies the Stars with 24.3 points, 9.1 rebounds and 3.96 steals a contest. She is the NAIA's top scorer in 2016-17.
Daniela Galindo, a 5-10 junior from Shattuck, Okla., totaled 22 points, four steals and four treys. Galindo adds 17.1 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.30 thefts a game. Her 92.2 percent free-throw percentage ranks No. 1 in the NAIA. Alexis Hill, a 6-1 junior from Byng, Okla., had eight points and seven rebounds. Hill averages 5.7 points and 4.0 rebounds a game.

Oklahoma City remained at seventh in the newest rankings. OCU has made 208 consecutive appearances in the NAIA ratings since 1999-2000. OCU owns national championships from 1988, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2012, 2014 and 2015. SAC coaches installed the Stars as the league's preseason favorite. OCU has won or shared the SAC regular-season crown 16 times.
OCU has a 3-0 all-time mark against Bacone. The Stars handed Bacone a 92-50 setback Jan. 28 at Abe Lemons Arena. Galindo rang up 26 points, four assists and four 3s.

ABOUT THE LADY WARRIORS: Bacone picked up an 87-77 victory over St. Gregory's on Thursday in Shawnee, Okla. Bacone (9-14, 5-8 SAC) piled up a season-high scoring output.
Kim Scott, a 5-5 senior, boosted Bacone with 21 points, eight rebounds, three assists and four steals. Scott provides the Lady Warriors with 8.0 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.33 steals a contest. Cierra Miles, a 5-6 junior, had 19 points, six rebounds, three assists and six steals. Miles averages 16.3 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.17 steals a game.
Bacone ranks fourth among the NAIA with a plus-6.65 turnover margin. SAC coaches ticketed Bacone for a 10th-place finish in the league poll before the season.

ABOUT THE COACHES: Bo Overton returns to OCU for his second season as its head coach. Overton has coaching experience on the professional level in China, Russia and the WNBA, as well as college head-coaching experience with Missouri-Kansas City. Overton has been an assistant on the international level for the Bahamas and China, including the 2012 Olympics with the Chinese team.
Josh Nichols is in his second season as the Lady Warriors head coach after serving as the assistant coach. Prior to serving four years as a men's basketball assistant at Bacone, Nichols spent four years as an assistant at Iowa Wesleyan and two and a half seasons at Johnson County (Kan.). In 2002 as a team captain, Nichols helped lead Oklahoma Wesleyan to the NCCAA Tournament. After his playing days, he served as the head varsity assistant from 2002-04 at Oklahoma Wesleyan.
