Stars topple Indiana Tech 31-12

OCU lands three wins over ranked competition

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University upended Indiana Tech 31-12 on Sunday at Abe Lemons Arena in the Oklahoma City Duals.
The Stars knocked off three ranked teams, including Indiana Tech, ranked third in NAIA wrestling. OCU won 46-9 over York (Neb.), 25-20 over 17th-ranked Concordia (Neb.) 25-20 and 27-19 over 15th-ranked Baker (Kan.).
Against Indiana Tech, Brian Buser and Evan Hudson posted falls as OCU won the final five matches of the dual. Buser, a freshman from Tampa, Fla., pinned Chandler Updike in the 184-pound bout in 5:57. In the 197-pound matchup, Hudson, a junior from Oklahoma City, rolled to a 12-3 lead before sticking the fall against Josue Hill near the boundary in 3:17.
Matt Landgraff sparked the Stars with a 13-5 win over Thomas Garty, rated third among NAIA 149-pounders. Landgraff, a junior from Weeki Wachee, Fla., racked up a four-point near fall and two takedowns in the first period. Landgraff holds the No. 20 spot in his weight's ratings.
Brok Williams of OCU collected a second-period reversal on the way to a 9-1 victory over Mason Gaines in the 165-pound match. Williams, a senior from Lawton, Okla., tied the dual 12-12.
The Stars' Chase Vincent took the 174-pound contest 8-5 over Scott Sopko. Vincent, a freshman from Yukon, Okla., rolled up two takedowns and a pair of escapes in the final period to clinch the win. OCU led 15-12.
Bryson McGowan completed the victory with a 14-3 win in the heavyweight match. Coulton Parker picked up a 9-0 win in the 133-pound bout.
Hudson and McGowan rallied Oklahoma City past Concordia. Hudson pinned Alexander Reimers in 35 seconds at 197 pounds to put the Stars in the lead 21-20. McGowan, ranked fourth at his weight, clinched the win with a 9-0 triumph over Michael Duffy in the 285-pound match.
Landgraff added a fall in 50 seconds over Cody Lambert in the 149-pound matchup. Concordia pulled ahead 20-15 with a pair of 3-2 wins from Walker Fisher and Joshua Nelson.
Vincent's fall in 28 seconds over Bryson Wesley secured OCU's win over Baker. Montana Moon of the Stars pinned Zane Baugh in 2:20 in the 125-pound contest.
Against York, Landgraff, Vincent and Michael Sanchez picked up falls. OCU benefited from four forfeits.
Landgraff, Parker and Vincent each went 4-0, while McGowan was 2-0 with two major-decision wins on the day. Landgraff and Vincent posted two falls each. Hudson made his season debut.
OCU will resume its season Jan. 6 in the Hastings Cusatis Open in Hastings, Neb.
