Stars take fourth in NWCA National Duals

OCU, ranked third in dual ratings, moves to 4-2 in duals

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Oklahoma City University finished fourth place in the NWCA National Duals after a 31-14 setback to Campbellsville (Ky.) on Friday at the Fort Wayne Convention Center.
Oklahoma City took its first loss of the season 29-13 to McKendree (Ill.) in the tournament semifinals. The Stars, third in the Women's College Wrestling Association dual rankings, dropped to 4-2 in duals this season.
In the third-place dual, Cassidy Jasperson and Rachel Watters picked up technical-fall wins, while Monica Mason pinned her opponent vs. fifth-ranked Campbellsville. Jasperson, a junior from League City, Texas, blanked McKenzie Bacich 10-0 in the 109-pound match.
Watters, a freshman from Ankeny, Iowa, prevailed 12-1 over Mariah Harris at 155. In the 191-pound bout, Mason, a sophomore from Marian, N.Y., pinned Rebecca Carson in 1:59.
In the semifinals, Jasperson, Mason, Watters and Rachel Archer came away with wins against fourth-ranked McKendree. Jasperson edged Vanessa Ramirez 11-10.
Archer, a senior from Winlock, Wash., knocked off Brianna Bogdan 5-2, while Watters, rated fifth among 155-pounders, won 3-1 over Alexandria Glaude. Mason finished the dual with an 8-0 victory over Olivia Toth. Mason holds the sixth spot in the latest 191-pound rankings.
OCU competes in the Ottawa Braves Open at 8 a.m. Jan. 15 in Ottawa, Kan.
