Stars pull out 3-2 victory over Marian

OCU faces Saint Xavier at 4 p.m. Monday

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Kyndra Holasek's RBI double lifted top-ranked Oklahoma City University past Marian (Ind.) 3-2 on Saturday at the Elizabeth & Irving Jensen Softball Complex in the NAIA Softball World Series.
Jaci Smith scored the winning run as Holasek pounded a double into right field with two out in the top of the seventh inning. Oklahoma City (62-2) takes on fifth-ranked Saint Xavier (Ill.) at 4 p.m. CDT Monday.
The Stars jumped out to a 2-0 first-inning advantage. Laci Joyner socked a two-run base hit to center with two out. Holasek and Kali Pugh reached home plate on Joyner's single.
Marian answered in the bottom of the inning as Erica Miller singled to left to drive home Logan Personett, who led off with a double.
In the third, Pugh hit a single to center leading off. Leslie Miller and Madison Ellis got onto base via hit by pitch to load the bases with two out. Breena Smith retired Joyner on a popup to escape the jam.
In the bottom of the third, Marian's Mackenzie Reeder drew a walk to fill the bases with two out. OCU's Georgia Wall struck out Sam Pash to leave the bases loaded for Marian.
Marian knotted the game 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth. Riley Cripe brought home Reeder with the tying run on a groundout for the inning's second out. Pash doubled to put Reeder on third base.
Joyner, a sophomore from Mustang, Okla., supplied OCU with a 2-for-3, two-RBI performance with a stolen base. Pugh, a junior from Vista, Calif., went 2-for-4 and scored a run.
Holasek, a senior from Mustang, Okla., was 1-for-3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI, while Jaci Smith, a freshman from Godley, Texas, went 1-for-1 with a run scored and two sacrifice hits.
Wall (23-0) worked the final five innings to collect the victory. Wall, a freshman from Marlow, Okla., fanned two and permitted one run on three hits and two walks. Breena Smith (28-6) struck out six and walked three in a complete-game, seven-inning effort for Marian.
