LAWRENCE, Kan. – Daniela Wallen matched a career high with 35 points and led Oklahoma City University's women's basketball team to a 70-56 win over Haskell (Kan.) Saturday at the Tony Coffin Sports Complex.
Oklahoma City, ranked ninth in NAIA Division I, opened the game on a 14-0 run and never looked back to move to 10-1 on the season.
Wallen, a senior from Caracas, Venezuela, also had a career-high eight steals to go along with 12 rebounds. She shot 15-for-26 from the field and recorded her seventh double-double of the season.
"I thought Daniela [Wallen] was focused from the start," OCU head coach Bo Overton said. "She played very hard on both ends, and other players did a great job of finding her against Haskell's defense."
Brooke Irwin, a junior from Mustang, Okla., scored 11 points and grabbed six rebounds for the Stars while Daniela Galindo, a junior from Shattuck, Okla., pulled down nine rebounds and added seven points to help OCU beat Haskell for the second time in just four days.
"We knew it would be a different game at their place," Overton said. "I think the veteran players like Wallen, Duran, Galindo and Haag knew what to expect. I give Haskell and their coaches credit. They played extremely hard tonight."
OCU outrebounded Haskell 40-32 and held the Indians to 35.7 percent from the field.
Haskell was led by Cerissa Honena-Reyes, who scored 16 points in the loss.
The Stars next matchup will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17 against No. 14 Benedictine (Kan.) at Abe Lemons Arena.
