OCU overpowers Emmanuel 36-11

Stevens snags first dual win as Stars coach

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University notched its first dual victory of the season 36-11 over Emmanuel (Ga.) on Thursday night at Abe Lemons Arena.
Rachel Archer, Margaret Douma, Daniela Flores and Tatiana Vazquez powered the Stars, ranked in the Women's College Wrestling Association dual ratings, with falls. OCU handed Matt Stevens his first head-coaching victory.
Archer and Vazquez finished their matches in less than a minute. Archer, a senior from Winlock, Wash., pinned Ahlana Williams in 54 seconds in the 123-pound match. Archer holds the third spot in the 123-pound WCWA rankings.
Vazquez, a junior from Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., earned her fall in 34 seconds in the 191-pound bout.
"I'm really proud of the girls tonight," Stevens said. "They wrestled hard and went after every point. I'm really excited about the rest of the year and what this group of ladies is going to accomplish in the end."
Flores, a sophomore from El Paso, Texas, gave OCU a 19-6 dual advantage by pinning Charline Hagemaster in 4:13 in the 130-pound contest. The Stars led 24-10 after the 143-pound match, where Douma, a junior from Napa, Calif., completed the fall of Krista Martin in 1:40. Douma sits third in the 143-pound rankings.
OCU's Cassidy Jasperson tallied a 14-2 romp of Victoria Gutierrez. Jasperson, a junior from League City, Texas, struck for two four-point moves to cap the technical fall at 116 pounds.
At 155, Rachel Watters accumulated five takedowns in an 11-0 rout of Ophelia Lara for the Stars. Watters, a freshman from Ankeny, is fourth in the WCWA's 155-pound ratings.
Jackie Quinones posted a four-point move to score the 8-5 win over Sara Kouba at 170. Quinones, a sophomore from El Monte, Calif., led 8-1 after the first period.
Oklahoma City wrestles Bacone at 6 p.m. Dec. 8 at Abe Lemons Arena.
