Stars pulverize Ouachita Baptist 34-6

Gaines of OCU becomes top-ranked 125-pounder in NAIA

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Oklahoma City University stomped Ouachita Baptist (Ark.) 34-6 on Wednesday night at the Sturgis Center.
Adrian Gaines and Coulton Parker posted falls for the Stars. OCU moved to 15-3 in duals and third in the newest NAIA wrestling rankings.
Gaines, a junior from Lawton, Okla., started the Stars off by pinning Weston Cronan in 2:00 in the 125-pound matchup. Gaines took over the No. 1 spot in the NAIA's 125-pound ratings. Parker, a sophomore from Piedmont, Okla., finished his 133-pound match against Byron Burrell in 1:30.
At 141, James Landoll put OCU on top 17-0 by overwhelming Gunnar Smith 18-0. Landoll, a junior from Marysville, Kan., moved to 11th in the 141-pound rankings.
The Stars' Ricky McCarty rolled to a 16-0 win over Collin Chambers at 165 pounds. McCarty, a junior from Lawton, Okla., held onto the No. 2 ranking at his weight. Derek Sivertsen edged Izzak Simar 5-3 in the 184-pound contest. Sivertsen, a junior from Moore, Okla., has the fourth slot in the 174-pound rankings.
OCU's Cody Sivertsen knocked off O'Dell Lee 5-2 at 197 pounds. Cody Sivertsen, a senior from Moore, Okla., is ranked 11th at 197. Korey Walker rounded out the dual with a 9-5 win over Aaron Clayton. Walker, a freshman from Midwest City, Okla., sits 11th in the 285-pound rankings.
Oklahoma City squares off with Central Oklahoma at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27 at Abe Lemons Arena.
