Stars fall in Opening Round championship game

OCU ends season at 55-6

OKLAHOMA CITY – Top-ranked Oklahoma City University had their season ended with a 7-5 loss to 17th-ranked Concordia (Ore.) in the second game of the NAIA Championship Opening Round Oklahoma City Bracket title game Wednesday at Tom Heath Field at Oklahoma Christian.
The Stars, ranked No. 1 in NAIA softball, ended the season with a 55-6 record, led by eight seniors.
OCU took game one of the series 9-2 at Ann Lacy Stadium at Oklahoma City University and forced a game two.
Jocelin Diaz tied the score at 1-1 in the first inning on a sacrifice bunt that scored Kynrda Holasek.
In the second, Holasek, a junior from Mustang, Okla., singled through the left side of the infield and drove home McRae Cayton. Later in the inning, Carissa Turang singled to left center and scored Madison Ellis.
Cayton, a junior from Irvine, Calif., singled up the middle to score Kylee Rounsaville in the fourth. In the same inning, Holasek smacked a three run home run and put the Stars in front 7-2 in the third.
OCU added insurance runs in the fifth and sixth to capture the victory.
Holasek went 4-for-5 with four RBIs and scored twice, while Ellis, a sophomore from Yukon, Okla., went 3-for-4 with two runs scored.
Maci-Brooke Lambert threw the complete game and improved to 10-0 with two runs on seven hits and struck out three.
Game two of the championship series was moved to Oklahoma Christian's Tom Heath Field to play on artificial turf due to weather conditions.
Concordia jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first before the Stars answered the call in the second. Cayton doubled down the left field line that scored Rateliff and Sarah De La Cruz. Cayton came around to score on two throwing errors.
Concordia put up five runs in the second behind Destinee Chang's three run home run.
The Stars battled back with Ellis' triple to right field that scored Cayton and cut the deficit to 7-4 in the fourth. Holasek singled through the left side of the infield that plated Joyner in the sixth.
Cayton went 1-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Seniors Jocelin Diaz, Maria Gomez, Emily Krienke, Maci-Brooke Lambert, Jamie Rateliff, Kylee Rounsaville, Cheyanne Terry and Carissa Turang ended their OCU careers.
Diaz, of Maracay, Venezuela, was a two year starter for the Stars. As a junior, she hits .410 with 10 home runs and 65 RBIs and named to the first-team NFCA all-NAIA Southwest Region team and first-team all-Sooner Athletic Conference. She ended her senior season hitting .449 with 13 home runs and 69 RBIs, while named to the first-team all-SAC and a gold glove.
Gomez, of Yaracuy, Venezuela, pitched two years for the Stars. She was 13-3 with a 2.21 ERA and 10 complete games in her junior campaign. As a senior, she was 19-1 with a 2.00 ERA with nine complete games and made second-team all-SAC.
Krienke, of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, spent four years in a Stars jersey. She hit .352 with 85 runs scored and 66 RBIs. She was named to the CoSIDA college-division second-team academic all-American and academic all-district 7 as a sophomore and NFCA all-American scholar-athlete as a junior.
Lambert, of Healdton, Okla., pitched two years for OCU. She went 6-3 with a 1.31 ERA as a junior and was named an NFCA all-Academic scholar athlete. As a senior, Lambert racked up a 10-0 record with a 2.37 ERA and seven complete games.
Rateliff, of Mustang, Okla., played her entire career as a Star. She hit .362 as a Star with 174 runs, 199 RBIs and 39 home runs, while boasting a 36-7 record in the circle. Rateliff was three-time all-SAC, two-time NFCA NAIA all-American, all-NFCA Southwest Region, two-time CoSIDA academic all-America and an NAIA scholar-athlete.
Rounsaville, of Mustang, Okla., played all for years at OCU. She hit .346 with 105 runs, 152 RBIs and 30 home runs. Rounsaville was a three-time first-team all-SAC, the NFCA NAIA catcher of the year, and NAIA first-team all-America and an NFCA first-team all-American in 2012.
Terry, from Little Axe, Okla., played two season at OCU. She hit .337 with 54 runs and 40 RBIs as a junior. In her senior campaign, Terry hit .374 with 71 runs, 40 RBIs and five home runs, while named second-team all-SAC.
Turang, from Whittier, Calif., played her only season as a Star. The shortstop hit .429 with 45 runs, 32 RBIs and was a perfect 19-19 stolen bases, while named to the first-team all-SAC.
