OCU topples Texas Wesleyan 6-4

Stars win seventh of last nine games

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas – Oklahoma City University took down Texas Wesleyan 6-4 on Friday at QuikTrip Park.
The Stars, ranked No. 5 in NAIA baseball, racked up 10 hits while improving to 28-8, 11-2 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
In the third inning, Joe Lytle, a freshman from Yukon, Okla., singled through the left side of the infield, scoring Adam Clark. OCU took a 2-1 lead later in the inning when Connor Lynch, a senior from Marietta, Ga., reached on an error from the third baseman that brought in Lytle.
Jared Baker, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., clobbered his fourth home run of the season over the right-field wall to put the Stars up 3-1 in the fifth.
Oklahoma City added three more runs in the eighth. Lytle tripled down the left-field line to score Reggie Wilson and Josh Halbert. Later Lynch singled to center field, plating Lytle.
Lytle went 2-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs, while Baker went 2-for-5 with a home run.
Carlos Chavez, a junior from Rio Rancho, N.M., improved to 5-0 on seven innings of work with nine hits, two runs and struck out three. Holden Lyons, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., picked up his third save on 1.2 scoreless innings with no hits and struck out two.
The Stars complete the series with Texas Wesleyan with a doubleheader Saturday at noon.
