OCU posts 5-4 comeback win over East Central

Stars drop second game of doubleheader 2-1, leave Crabaugh one win shy of 1,300

OKLAHOMA CITY – Adam Clark's run-scoring single in the bottom of the seventh inning brought Oklahoma City University a 5-4 win before OCU fell short 2-1 in the nightcap to East Central on Tuesday at Jim Wade Stadium.
OCU coach Denney Crabaugh notched his 1,299th career victory and will go for win No. 1,300 against Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) at 2 p.m. Friday in Waxahachie, Texas. The Stars, ranked fourth in NAIA baseball, went to 31-10 on the year.
Oklahoma City overcame a 3-0 sixth-inning deficit. The Stars plated four runs in the bottom of the sixth.
J.J. Bissell ignited the OCU rally by lacing an RBI double along the right-field foul line. Joe Haddox added a pinch-hit sacrifice fly to center field, then Joe Lytle belted a two-run double to right to put the Stars ahead 4-3.
Trevor Huie's run-scoring hit equaled the score at 4-4 in the top of the seventh. With two out in the bottom of the seventh, Clark nailed a base hit into the left-center gap to score Dylan Delso from third base on a full count.
Lytle, a freshman from Yukon, Okla., went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs, while Bissell, a junior from Windsor, Colo., was 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and a run driven in for the Stars. Delso, a junior from Broken Arrow, Okla., went 1-for-3 and scored twice, and Clark, a senior from St. John, New Brunswick, Canada, drew three walks and went 1-for-1 with an RBI.
Clark made a winner of Holden Lyons. Lyons, a sophomore right-hander from Edmond, Okla., recorded the final two outs against East Central. East Central's Ty Huie hit a fly ball to OCU center fielder Reggie Wilson as Trevor Huie tagged up from third base. Wilson gunned down Trevor Huie at the plate to retire the side. Lyons improved to 5-1 on the year.
Carlos Chavez worked the first six innings for the Stars. Chavez, a junior righty from Rio Rancho, N.M., struck out seven and escaped a bases-full jam in the sixth.
In the second game, OCU scored its run in the fifth. Clark hit a single to right to advance Josh Halbert to second base. East Central right fielder Ariel Adut tried to get Clark at first, but threw the ball away to score Halbert.
Garrett Donohoe doubled in the tying run, then David Terrazas drew a bases-loaded walk to put East Central in front 2-1 in the sixth.
In the seventh, Delso got on with a single, then Halbert and Clark had back-to-back infield hits to load the bases. Merrick Ardoin notched his eighth save by striking out Ryan Wright to finish the game.
Lytle was 2-for-2, while Halbert, a senior from Choctaw, Okla., went 2-for-3 and scored a run. Clark was 2-for-3.
Skylar Janisse had a season-long outing of 5.2 innings with six strikeouts for OCU. Janisse, a junior righty from LaSalle, Ontario, Canada, went to 2-5 with the setback.
