Coulibaly's free throws give OCU 63-61 win over Lewis-Clark State

Stars face Shawnee State at 10:45 a.m. Friday

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. – Ouleymatou Coulibaly's free throws with three tenths of a second remaining brought Oklahoma City University a 63-61 victory over Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) on Wednesday in the NAIA Division I women's basketball tournament at the Independence Events Center.
Coulibaly drew a foul attempting to rebound a miss by Yvonte Neal in the final second. Second-ranked Oklahoma City (26-2) advanced to a second-round matchup 10:45 a.m. Friday against 18th-ranked Shawnee State (Ohio).
Rateska Brown, a senior from Alvin, S.C., spearheaded the Stars with 24 points, four rebounds and six 3-pointers. Neal, a senior from Spring Valley, Calif., notched 15 points, six rebounds and three treys, while Coulibaly, a senior from Bamako, Mali, West Africa, contributed nine points and 10 rebounds for OCU.
Brown sank a 3 that increased OCU's lead to 48-25 with 14:41 remaining. Lewis-Clark State stormed back to tie the game 61-61 on Brittany Tackett's jumper with 15 seconds left.
"Our kids found a way to get tough," OCU coach Latricia Trammell said. "There was a lot of emotion. I'm proud of the grit we showed. I have to give Lewis-Clark State credit for coming back and exposing some of our weaknesses. We have to go back to what got us here."
Neal hit free throws to give the Stars a 53-37 advantage at the 11:46 mark. Lewis-Clark unleashed a 14-0 run as Caelin Orlandi had eight points during that span. Orlandi nailed back-to-back 3s to cut the OCU lead to 53-49 with 8:21 to go. Brooke Litalien capped the Warriors' run with a jumper with 7:37 left.
Brown ended a scoreless OCU drought of 5:39 by connecting on a jumper in the lane with 6:07 remaining. Megan Risinger evened the score 55-55 on free throws with 4:09 left, then put Lewis-Clark State in the lead by hitting foul shots at the 3:22 mark.
OCU answered as Coulibaly hit a jumper, then Janay Borum scored on a lay-in. Coulibaly's lay-in gave the Stars a 61-57 edge with 1:06 left.
Orlandi responded for LC State by scoring with 50 seconds showing.
Lewis-Clark State went from 23.8 percent shooting from the field in the first half to a second-half field-goal percentage of 44.1 percent. Lewis-Clark State built a 46-36 rebounding advantage.
