MUSKOGEE, Okla. – The Oklahoma City University men's soccer team slipped past Bacone 5-4 in overtime Saturday at Love-Hatbox Field.
Alexandre Taiar, a sophomore from Sao Paulo, Brazil, scored an unassisted goal in the 92nd minute to seal the victory for the Stars. OCU moved to 3-8, 3-2 in the Sooner Athletic Conference. Bacone dropped to 4-7 and 0-5 in the SAC. Bacone got on the board first with a Tobi Oganla goal in the seventh minute from an assist by Tyler Kittletly.
Petar Djurdjevic, a freshman from Belgrade, Serbia, responded with a goal in the eighth minute from an assist by Judah Maxwell, a junior from Noble, Okla. Maxwell notched his first career assist. Oganla scored again in the 14th minute from a James McGroarty assist.
Chase Soper, a freshman from Muskogee, Okla., scored the first goal of his collegiate career in the 15th minute unassisted for OCU. Zach Knox of the Warriors scored in the 35th minute from a Carlos Quintero assist.
In the 54th minute, Volney Richardson, a senior from Flower Mound, Texas, scored his first goal of the season off an assist by Djurdjevic to tie the match 3-3. Within a minute, Bacone's Tanner Theriot scored unassisted to go ahead 4-3. Logan Stewart, a sophomore from Denton, Texas, headed in the game-tying goal in the 60th minute off a corner kick from Taiar. Daniel Paugh, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., saw action for the first time in his college career as he started in the net for the Stars. Vladimir Kalajdzic, a sophomore from Novi Sad, Serbia, registered the last 47 minutes of play and picked up the win. Raul Camerena dropped to 4-7 as Bacone's goalkeeper. The Stars owned the shot advantage 11-8. OCU returns to action 7 p.m. Tuesday against St. Gregory's at Stars Field.
