Stars top John Brown 65-51

Second-half surge fuels OCU to 12th SAC win

Autumn Lau notched her sixth double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds against John Brown.

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. – Oklahoma City University topped John Brown (Ark.) 65-51 Saturday at Bill George Arena.
OCU, ranked No. 5 in NAIA Division I women's basketball, scored 26 points off 21 turnovers and outscored the 16th-ranked Golden Eagles 37-26 in the paint.
The win improved OCU's record to 15-2 overall and 12-1 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
Yvonte Neal paced the OCU attack with a game-high 18 points. Ouleymatou Coulibaly followed with 15 points, and Autumn Lau provided a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds off the bench.
After OCU jumped on top early, John Brown responded with a 10-2 run and took a 12-7 lead with at the 14:16 mark of the first half.
OCU battled back and led by as many as four points in the period. John Brown's Brooke Barker scored in transition to cut OCU's lead to 31-29 at halftime.
OCU scored 16 points off 12 forced turnovers in a first half that featured six ties and six lead changes. The Stars outscored the Golden Eagles 10-2 in bench points and 9-2 in fastbreak points.
Neal scored back-to-back buckets to retake the lead for OCU at the 14:45 mark and spark a 19-0 Stars' run. Neal fueled the runs with 10 points and helped OCU to a 57-39 advantage with 5:50 to go in the game.
At the 3:37 mark, Lauren Rogers hit a 3-point jumper to cut the OCU lead to 59-47, but the Stars maintained their double-digit lead and cruised to the 65-51 victory.
The Stars outscored John Brown 14-2 in fastbreak points and 13-2 in second-chance points on the day.
The Stars will return to action against Southwestern Christian at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Abe Lemons Arena.
