Stars nip Texas Wesleyan 60-51

OCU ties Oklahoma Baptist for SAC lead

FORT WORTH, Texas – Oklahoma City University edged Texas Wesleyan 60-51 Saturday at the Sid Richardson Center.
Ouleymatou Coulibaly and Autumn Lau powered the Stars, ranked No. 6 in NAIA women's basketball, past the Lady Rams with 17 points apiece. The win moved OCU (19-3, 16-2 SAC) into a tie for first place in the Sooner Athletic Conference standings with Oklahoma Baptist.
OCU opened the game on 13-0 run and held Texas Wesleyan scoreless until the 14:14 mark of the first half. The Stars scored eight of their first 13 points in the paint.
The Stars shot 55 percent from the floor and scored 11 points off turnovers in the first half to take a 34-19 lead to locker room at halftime. Coulibaly went 4-for-4 from the field and scored the final four points of the half to give OCU its largest lead of the game.
The Stars maintained a comfortable lead in the second half until Onyesonam Nolisa and Amy Moody hit back-to-back 3-pointers to cut the OCU lead to 41-37 with 11:53 to go.
After the Lady Rams narrowed OCU's lead to three points at the 6:38 mark, Lau converted a pair of free throws and sparked a 9-2 OCU run. Lau capped the run with a 3-pointer and gave OCU a 10-point lead with five minutes to go.
OCU held Texas Wesleyan to five points in the last five minutes of play and took the 60-51 victory.
Coulibaly and Lau led all scorers with 17 points apiece. Coulibaly snagged seven rebounds while Lau notched six rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Autumn Huffman followed with 11 points, four rebounds and three steals.
The Stars will return to action against Mid-America Christian at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Gaulke Activity center in Oklahoma City.
