Stars corral USAO 102-61

OCU sits second in SAC standings with three game remaining

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University rocked USAO 102-61 Thursday at Abe Lemons Arena.
The Stars, ranked No. 6 in NAIA Division I, scored 41 points on 28 Lady Drover turnovers and broke the 100-point mark for the fourth time this season. The win moves OCU to 18-3 overall and 15-2 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
Six Stars scored in double figures including 23 points from Cara Pugh, 18 from Ouleymatou Coulibaly and 17 from Yvonte Neal.
"The first half I thought we didn't play with the intensity that we needed to," OCU coach Latricia Trammell said. "I thought in the second half we came out and did a good job."
OCU built a 15-7 lead at the 12:50 mark of the first half. USAO's Lyndsey Larue hit from 3-point range to spark a 6-0 run for the Lady Drovers and cut the OCU lead to 15-13 with 11:55 remaining in the first.
Later in the half, Pugh buried a 3-point jumper that started the Stars on an 11-4 run and gave OCU its largest lead of the half at 39-22 with 4:31 to go in the period.
USAO scored the final five points of the half and cut OCU's lead to 45-36 at the break.
The Stars shot 51 percent from the field and outscored the Lady Droves 17-8 in bench points and 14-2 in fastbreak points in the first frame.
OCU embarked on a 19-4 run early in the second half and built a commanding 68-48 advantage with 12 minutes left in the contest. The Stars forced five turnovers and scored 10 points in the paint during the run.
A 3-pointer from Neal followed by a fastbreak layup by Markeisha Johnson gave OCU its largest lead of the game and the 102-61 victory.
OCU outrebounded USAO 44-25 and scored 62 points in the paint and 20 second-chance points on the night.
Pugh led all scorers with 23 points, three steals and two assists. Coulibaly notched a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Neal added 17 points, five rebounds and three assists.
Autumn Lau provided 14 points, eight rebounds and three steals. Johnson pitched in with 12 points, six assists and six steals, and Autumn Huffman posted 10 points, five rebounds and five steals.
The Stars will return to action against Texas Wesleyan at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Sid Richardson Center in Fort Worth, Texas.
