Stars hold off Texas Wesleyan 84-69

OCU ends the game on a 23-11 run

FORT WORTH, Texas - No. 1-ranked Oklahoma City University outlasted a late surge from Texas Wesleyan 84-69 Thursday night at the Sid Richardson Center.
The Stars improved to 4-1, 1-0 in Sooner Athletic Conference play, Texas Wesleyan fell to 6-4, 0-1 in women's basketball.
Oklahoma City jumped out to a 12-2 lead three minutes into the game.
In the first half Ouleymatou Coulibaly, a senior from Bamako, Mali, West Africa, led the offensive attack for the Stars with 15 points and five rebounds. Rateska Brown, a senior from Alvin, S.C., added 14 points, four rebounds and two assists.
The Stars' largest first half lead came at the 4:04 mark in the first half, OCU led by 20.
OCU forced Texas Wesleyan into 14 first half turnovers and 28.6 percent shooting from the floor. The Stars took the 51-35 lead into the locker room.
Texas Wesleyan opened the second half with a 23-8 run to close the gap to three with 10:50 to play in the game.
The Stars weathered the storm with a 23-11 to close the game.
Brown led all scorers with 30 points and added eight rebounds. She scored seven three-pointers for the second straight game. Coulibaly finished with 25 points, nine rebounds and two blocks.
OCU returns home 1 p.m. Saturday to play Wayland Baptist (Texas) at Abe Lemons Arena.
