Stars complete exhibition swing with 102-56 loss to Texas

No. 1-rated OCU meets 24th-ranked Langston

AUSTIN, Texas – No. 1-ranked Oklahoma City University dropped a 102-56 women's basketball exhibition to Texas on Sunday at the Erwin Center.
Rateska Brown, a senior from Alvin, S.C., poured in a game-high 30 points for Oklahoma City, the top-ranked squad in NAIA Division I. Ariel Atkins, a McDonald's high school all-American, totaled 18 points for Texas, ranked ninth in the Associated Press NCAA Division I ratings.
Brown shot 9-for-17 from the field and fired in seven 3-pointers. Yvonte Neal, a senior from Spring Valley, Calif., chipped in eight points and two treys.
Oklahoma City completed a two-game road swing through Texas. The Stars squared off with fifth-ranked Texas A&M on Saturday, falling 74-51.
"I appreciate the fight our team displayed over the weekend," OCU coach Latricia Trammell said. "We had several players having to play in different positions due to our lack of post players this weekend.
"This was a great opportunity for us to play two of the best teams in the country. We will go back to the drawing board, get back to practice and correct our weaknesses that they exposed."
Texas started by scoring the game's first seven points. Kelsey Lang's layup put the Longhorns up 7-0 with 17:53 remaining in the first half. Neal nailed a trey to cut Texas' lead to 42-33 at 37 seconds before halftime.
In the second half, Texas began the period with a 14-0 run. Lang had seven of those points, including a transition lay-in to give her team a 56-33 advantage with 17:00 left in the game.
OCU starts the regular season with a 6 p.m. contest against Langston on Saturday in Langston, Okla., in an encounter of top 25-ranked foes.
