OCU’s Frid named SAC player of the year

Five Stars named to all-SAC squad

Danny Frid was named SAC player of the year for the first time.
OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University's Danny Frid reeled in Sooner Athletic Conference men's soccer player of the year Friday.
OCU's Ruy Vaz claimed SAC offensive player of the year. First-team all-SAC honors went to Frid, Vaz and Vladimir Kalajdzic of the Stars, while Kieran McLachlan and Aron Chapman collected second-team all-SAC. OCU coach Brian Harvey was named coach of the year.
Frid, a senior from Raunds, England, is a team captain and a two-year starter for the Stars. This year, he has racked up five goals, two assists and 12 points plus the winning goal against Oklahoma Baptist on Oct. 21. The 6-foot-2 defender was first-team all-SAC as a junior.
Vaz, a senior from Sao Paulo, Brazil, is the Stars' top goal scorer this season and a two-year starter. The 6-1 forward contributed six goals – which includes a hat trick against St. Gregory's – three assists and 15 points. He is a two-time Sooner Athletic Conference offensive player of the week. Vaz provided the game-winning assist against USAO that helped OCU capture the SAC regular-season championship.
Kalajdzic, a freshman from Novi Sad, Serbia, played every minute for the Stars and raked in 85 saves on the year. Kalajdzic collected 10 saves against USAO on Oct. 31. He has three matches with double-digit saves – including a career-high 13 against Our Lady of the Lake (Texas) on Aug. 31.
Kieran McLachlan, a senior from Airdrie, Scotland, is a four-year starter for the Stars. The 5-9 midfielder has scored five goals, dished out five assists, notched 15 points and two winning goals, including the winner against USAO, this year. McLachlan tied with Vaz by providing 15 points for OCU this season.
Chapman, a sophomore from Sutton Coldfield, England, helped anchor the OCU defense. The Stars rank fourth in the SAC in goals allowed, a stingy 1.50 a game. He provided a goal against Mid-America Christian on Oct. 25 at Evangel Field.
The Stars finished the regular season with a record of 8-4-2 overall and 7-1-1 in conference play to earn their first regular-season SAC title since 2008. OCU earned the No. 1 seed in the SAC Tournament and will host Mid-America Christian at 6 p.m. Saturday at Stars Field. Follow the action via live stats and video by clicking here.
