OCU cruises past Wayland Baptist 28-14

Galindo, Garcia pick up falls

PLAINVIEW, Texas – Oklahoma City University overpowered Wayland Baptist (Texas) 28-14 on Wednesday at the Hutcherson Center.
Yvonne Galindo and Heiley Garcia notched falls for the Stars. OCU, ranked second in the Women's College Wrestling Association, improved to 16-2.
Galindo, a sophomore from El Paso, Texas, began the dual with a pin of Rhina Lopez of 10th-ranked Wayland Baptist in 2:08 in the 155-pound match. Garcia, a sophomore from Carrollton, Texas, finished off Rachel Bates in 1:49 at 143 to end the dual.
At 191, Heather O'Connor of OCU won 6-0 over Kierra Boyce. O'Connor, a senior from Napa, Calif., sits second in the 191-pound WCWA rankings.
Haley Moreno routed Lauren Bruggink 12-1 in the 116-pound match to put the Stars ahead 18-5 in the dual. Moreno, a sophomore from Fort Worth, Texas, is ranked fourth nationally at 109 pounds.
Oklahoma City will compete in the Bill Farrell International at 8 a.m. Saturday and Sunday in Hempstead, N.Y.
