Stars smack MidAmerica Nazarene 78-63

OCU improves to 2-1 against ranked opponents this season

SHAWNEE, Okla. – No. 1-ranked Oklahoma City University prevailed 78-63 over MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) on Saturday at the Noble Complex in the Oklahoma Baptist Holiday Classic in a battle of top 25-ranked women's basketball teams in NAIA Division I.
Rateska Brown, a senior from Alvin, S.C., rang up 31 points while burying seven 3-pointers for Oklahoma City. The Stars improved to 3-1 on the season with the win over 16th-ranked MidAmerica Nazarene.
Ouleymatou Coulibaly, a senior from Bamako, Mali, West Africa, supplied the Stars with 14 points, four rebounds and two steals, and Kara Partridge, a freshman from Midwest City, Okla., picked up 11 points, three assists, two steals and three treys. Janay Borum, a senior from Upper Marlboro, Md., recorded 10 assists and three steals for OCU.
Oklahoma City took advantage of 24 MidAmerica Nazarene turnovers to produce 28 points.
"I was very proud of our team effort," OCU coach Latricia Trammell said. "We went into this weekend shorthanded, and we had the entire team step up and contribute in a positive way. This weekend was exciting to watch. We are coming together."
The Stars used a 12-0 run to push their lead to 63-41 with 10:17 remaining in the game. Brown had eight of those points, nailing back-to-back 3s to widen OCU's advantage to 59-41 at the 11:40 mark.
During that OCU splurge, MidAmerica went without a point for 3:04. The Stars held MidAmerica Nazarene without a basket for 3:55 in a stretch that included OCU's 12-0 onslaught.
Brown totaled seven points as the Stars built a 14-2 lead early.  
OCU opens its Sooner Athletic Conference slate 6 p.m. Thursday at Texas Wesleyan in Fort Worth, Texas.
