Stars cruise past St. Gregory's

OCU stays unbeaten in conference play

Ruy Vaz scored his first career hat trick as a Star.

SHAWNEE, Okla. – Oklahoma City University controlled St. Gregory's 4-1 on Tuesday at Fr. Victor Roberts Field.
Ruy Vaz, a senior from Sao Paulo, Brazil, produced his first hat trick as a Star. OCU improved to 4-3-2, 3-0-1 in Sooner Athletic men's soccer.
The Stars took the lead in the 11th minute when Danny Frid, a senior from Raunds, England, was able to beat the goal keeper. Kieran McLachlan, a senior from Airdrie, Scotland, provided the assist. Frid scored his second goal of the season.
OCU's Vaz scored five minutes later to increase the Stars' lead. Ethan Berney had the assist.
St. Gregory's cut the lead in the 26th minute when Greg Gibson found the back of the net. The Stars took the 2-1 lead into half time.
Eight minutes into the second half Vaz scored his fourth goal of the season. Logan Stewart, a freshman from Denton, Texas, produced the assist.
Vaz completed his hat trick in the 63rd minute to extend the Star's lead to 4-1. McLachlan had the assist.
Vladimir Kalajdzic, a freshman from Novi Sad, Serbia, collected five saves for the Stars.
OCU returns home 7 p.m. Oct. 14 to take on Southwestern Christian at Stars Field.
