OCU racks up five wins in dual tournament

Stars move to 13-1 on season

Carla Ponce picked up five wins Friday, two by forfeit, two by technical fall and another by fall.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University rolled to five wins Friday in the Oklahoma City Cliff Keen Duals at Abe Lemons Arena.
The Stars, ranked second in the Women's College Wrestling Association, pounded 10th-ranked Cumberlands (Ky.) 41-7. OCU's other wins came 48-0 over Missouri Baptist's second team, 46-1 over Lyon (Ark.), 39-6 over Missouri Valley and 47-1 over Life (Ga.). OCU improved to 13-1.
The second day of competition in the OCU Duals starts 9 a.m. Saturday.
Emily Webster at 101 pounds, Rachel Archer at 123, Kayla Aggio at 143 and Heiley Garcia at 155 posted falls to key OCU's 15th shutout in program history against Missouri Baptist's White team.
The Stars produced 22 pins as a team in their five duals. Aggio, a junior from Rohnert Park, Calif., led the squad with five falls. Aggio's fastest fall of the day came in 17 seconds against Kristin Yamasaki of Cumberlands. Aggio, ranked third at 143 pounds, also stuck Hannah Del Angel of Lyon in 19 seconds and Missouri Valley's Nayza Martinez in 48 seconds.
Archer and Cody Pfau notched four falls each. Archer, a sophomore from Winlock, Wash., finished off Briana Davie of Missouri Baptist in 49 seconds. Pfau, a sophomore from Parachute, Colo., ended her match against Lyon's Bobbi Navarrete in 38 seconds.
Garcia, a sophomore from Carrollton, Texas, pinned Kenady Beaudoin of Missouri Baptist in 20 seconds. Sherese Thomas, a junior from Grand Prairie, Texas, had a pin of Lyon's Shannon Ballard in 16 seconds.
Tanalei Louis had the quickest fall of the day for a Star in 14 seconds of Jordan Smith of Wayland Baptist (Texas). Louis, a sophomore from Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, competed for the Mystery Team on Friday.
