Stars remain atop conference

OCU improves to 5-0-1 in conference play

Danny Frid scored on a penalty kick to give the Stars the victory.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University squeezed past Oklahoma Baptist 4-3 in double overtime Tuesday at Stars Field.
Danny Frid scored the winning goal for the Stars in the second overtime period. OCU improved to 6-3-2, 5-0-1 in Sooner Athletic men's soccer.
Oklahoma Baptist was first to score in the 18th minute. Vicente Castillo found Kervy Robles who scored his fourth goal of the season.
OCU came back and scored three straight goals. In the 29th minute Alexandre Taiar, a freshman from Sao Paulo, Brazil, took a free kick from just outside the 18-yard box. The keeper deflected the shot but Daniel Yeom, a junior from Tongyeong, South Korea, was there to clean up to tie the game at one.
In the 41st minute Ethan Berney, a senior from Oklahoma City, hit a strike from outside the 18 that went in the side netting. His second score of the season put the Stars up 2-1.
Kieran McLachlan, a senior from Airdrie, Scotland, scored off a pass from Logan Stewart, a freshman from Denton, Texas, to give OCU the commanding 3-1 head heading into half time.
Oklahoma Baptist came charging back in the second half. Kervy Robles scored his second goal of the game in the 56th minute to cut the lead. With a little more than a minute to go Josue DePaz scored a heartbreaking goal to tie the game and send it to extra periods.
In the 102nd minute Ruy Vaz, a senior from Sao Paulo, Brazil, got tripped up by an Oklahoma Baptist defender inside the 18-yard box, which gave the Stars a penalty kick. Frid, a senior from Raunds England, stepped up and sank his fourth goal of the season to give the Stars the victory.
Vladimir Kalajdzic, a freshman from Novi Sad, Serbia collected eight saves in 102 minutes of play.
OCU plays Mid-American Christian 3 p.m. Saturday at Evangel Field.
