OCU takes runner-up in WCWA Championships

Webster sews up third consecutive national crown

ST. LOUIS – King (Tenn.) edged Oklahoma City University by two points to take the Women's College Wrestling Association championship on Saturday at the Petty Complex.
Emily Webster captured her third consecutive 101-pound individual championship as 14 Stars became all-Americans. OCU picked up its second consecutive runner-up finish and third second-place team finish in program history.
OCU owns four national championships won in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012.
The Stars' Rachel McFarland at 130 pounds and Kayla Aggio at 155 took individual runner-up showings. OCU wrestlers placing fourth were Brianna Rahall at 101, Kristi Garr at 109, Cody Pfau at 116, Brieana Delgado at 123, Demi Strub at 155, Sherese Thomas at 170 and Heather O'Connor at 191.
Stars taking fifth were Beatrize Martinez (136) and Stephanie Geltmacher (143). Rachel Young was sixth at 136, and Shelby Morrison was the seventh-place finisher at 116.
Garr and Geltmacher became four-time all-Americans, increasing OCU's total of four-time all-Americans to eight in program history. Delgado, O'Connor, Rahall, Strub and Webster can boast of being three-time all-Americans. Aggio and Martinez repeated as all-Americans.
Webster triumphed 10-0 over Darby Huckle of Simon Fraser (British Columbia) to win the 101-pound title. Webster, a junior from Sedalia, Mo., won all four of her national-tournament matches by technical fall. Webster completed the season 20-0 with 16 technical-fall victories. She has 87 career wins.
McFarland fell to Helen Maroulis of Simon Fraser by pin in the 130-pound national title bout. McFarland, a sophomore from DeWitt, Mich., made the national championship match by pinning Cheyenne Youngblood of Missouri Baptist in 2:24. McFarland finished the season 16-5.
Aggio dropped the 155-pound final to Julia Salata of King 5-1. Aggio, a sophomore from Rohnert Park, Calif., advanced to the championship by defeating Valerie Rosales of Wayland Baptist (Texas) 8-3. Aggio went 8-8 this season.
Four Stars finished their college careers Saturday.
Garr, a senior from Goodrich, Mich., owned a 76-34 career ledger with 36 pins as a Star. Garr reached the national final and finished third twice before taking fourth this season.
Geltmacher, a senior from Kahaluui, Hawaii, ended her three-year OCU career with a 76-23 record with 17 falls. She was a two-time national finalist.
Martinez, a senior from Fresno, Calif., went 50-52 with 25 falls with OCU. Martinez is serving as OCU Student Government Association President in 2013-14.
Rahall, a senior from Yorktown, Va., was 75-37 with 10 pins as a Star.

Stars earn WCWA academic awards

Webster and Young picked up WCWA individual academic awards. Webster has a 3.96 cumulative grade-point average studying environmental studies, and Young sports a 3.87 GPA pursuing a degree in biochemistry. Webster became a two-time award winner.
