Stars top Benedictine 3-2

McMahon scores twice, OCU earns first victory

Meghan McMahon scored her third and fourth goals of the season against Benedictine.

ATCHISON, Kan. – Oklahoma City University toppled Benedictine (Kan.) 3-2 Sunday at BC Soccer Complex to earn its first win of the season.
The Stars, ranked No. 8 in NAIA women's soccer, bounced back from being shut out Saturday and scored three goals to best the 19th-ranked Ravens and move to 1-2 on the season.
OCU jumped on the scoreboard first when Allison Worsham took a pass from Meghan McMahon and scored in the 26th minute to make the score 1-0.
Benedictine evened the score at 1-1 in the 52nd minute when Rachel Baronovic was awarded a penalty kick and took advantage of the opportunity.
The Ravens took the lead in the 72nd minute when Jordan Francescon beat OCU goalkeeper Alissa Reed to make the score 2-1.
Seconds later, McMahon answered with her third goal of the season to tie the match at 2 goals apiece.
McMahon struck again in the 80th minute when she beat Benedictine goalkeeper Ashley Holland to score her second goal of the match and give the Stars the 3-2 victory.
Reed played all 90 minutes between the posts and made eight save to help OCU to its first win of the season.
The Stars will return to action against Grace (Ind.) at noon Sept. 13 in the John Brown Classic at Alumni Field in Siloam Springs, Ark.
