ATCHISON, Kan. – Oklahoma City University suffered a 1-0 setback against Benedictine (Kan.) Sunday at BC Soccer Complex.
OCU, now 1-1 on the season, and the 17th-ranked Ravens played a scoreless first half, but Benedictine pulled away in the second half and handed the Stars their first loss.
A.J. Dodson and Danny Frid each had shots on goal in the first half, but Benedictine goalkeeper Taylor Vinnage stopped both attempts to keep the score 0-0.
OCU goalkeeper Joe Shulberg made saves in the 10th, 43rd and 44th minutes of the first half to keep Benedictine off the scoreboard and keep the match scoreless at halftime.
In the 55th minute, Parker Melott gave the Ravens a 1-0 advantage when he took a pass from Joe Sbarro and scored.
Kieran McLachlan put a shot on target in the 75th minute, but Vinnage made the save and Benedictine took the 1-0 victory.
Shulberg played all 90 minutes in goal for the Stars and made five saves.
OCU will return to action against Georgia Gwinnett at 2 p.m. Friday in the John Brown Classic at Alumni Field in Siloam Springs, Ark.
