Stars edge Baker 3-2

OCU prevails in season opener

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Oklahoma City University edged Baker (Kan.) 3-2 in overtime Saturday at North Park in its season opener.
OCU allowed a pair of goals late in the second half to tie the score at 2-2, but got the game-winning goal from Danny Frid in the 93rd minute to move to 1-0 on the young season.
The Stars jumped on the scoreboard early when Kieran McLachlan found Adam Black who found the back of the net in the fourth minute to make the score 1-0.
In the 66th minute Ruy Vaz scored his first OCU goal when he beat Baker goalkeeper Matt Bickley to make the score 2-0.
Baker answered in the 80th minute when Andy Griffin beat OCU goalkeeper Joe Shulberg to cut the OCU lead to 2-1.
In the 85th minute, Baker's Preston Phillips scored to even that match at two goals apiece.
In overtime, Black put a shot on goal that was saved by Bickley. Frid followed with his first goal as a Star to give OCU the 3-2 victory.
Shulberg played all 93 minutes in goal and made six saves.
OCU will return to action against Benedictine (Kan.) at 2:30 p.m. in Atchison, Kan.
