Abilene Christian edges OCU 3-2

McMahon scores two in Stars loss

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University was edged by Abilene Christian 3-2 Sunday in its season opener at Stars Field.
OCU, ranked No. 8 in NAIA women's soccer, got a pair of goals from senior Meghan McMahon, but Abilene Christian, a first-year NCAA Division I program, outdueled the Stars and handed them their first loss of the season.
The Wildcats jumped on the scoreboard in the fifth minute when Andrea Carpenter took a pass from Brie Buschman and beat OCU goalkeeper Alissa Reed to make the score 1-0.
The Stars evened the score at 1-1 in the 14th minute when McMahon intercepted a pass and found the back of the net from the top of the penalty area.
Abilene Christian regained the lead in the 70th minute when Jacey Ferrara took a pass from Carpenter and scored to make the score 2-1.
In the 83rd minute, the Wildcats extended their lead to 3-1 when Tiffany Ysassi scored on a cross from Katie Stivers.
The Stars cut the lead to 3-2 when McMahon scored from the beyond the penalty area, her second goal of the match, in the 84th minute.
Abilene Christian held OCU scoreless in the final five minutes of the match and took the 3-2 victory.
Reed played all 90 minutes in goal and made two saves.
The Stars will return to action against Baker (Kan.) at 3 p.m. Saturday in Baldwin City, Kan.
