OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University powered its way into the semifinals of the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament with a 4-0 victory over Mid-America Christian Saturday at Stars Field.
The Stars, ranked No. 18 in NAIA women's soccer, scored all four goals in the first 20 minutes of the match to eliminate the Lady Evangels and improve to 14-4 on the season.
The win gave OCU coach Brian Harvey his 325th career women's college soccer coaching victory. Harvey, in his 19th year of coaching the OCU women, is the NAIA's active leader among women's soccer coaches in wins with an overall record of 325-87-20. His combine record coaching the Stars' men and women is 698-254-52 through 27 years.
Sophomore Allison Worsham put the Stars on the scoreboard in the second minute when she intercepted a failed clearance and found the back of the net to make the score 1-0.
In the eighth minute, junior Allie Glazner scored her third goal of the season on a free kick and gave OCU a 2-0 advantage.
The Stars opened their lead to 3-0 in the 14th minute when senior Meghan McMahon controlled an OCU corner kick in the penalty area and found freshman Vanessa Mendoza who found the back of the net.
Worsham capped the scoring in the 18th minute when she scored her 13th goal of the season to give the Stars the 4-0 victory.
Goalkeepers Ashley Bechtold and Alissa Reed split time in goal for the Stars. Reed got the start and made three key saves while Bechtold made two saves in the second half and closed the door on Mid-America Christian.
The top-seeded Stars will host the winner of Oklahoma Baptist and Texas Wesleyan in the SAC Tournament semifinals Tuesday at Stars Field.
