OCU falls 3-0 to Texas Wesleyan

Stars end season at 8-8-2

FORT WORTH, Texas – Oklahoma City University fell 3-0 to Texas Wesleyan in the quarterfinals of the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament Friday at Martin Field.
The loss ended the Stars season and advanced their record to 8-8-2 overall.
Texas Wesleyan took a 1-0 lead in the seventh minute when Maximillian O'Shea scored on pass from Alexander Ellis.
Adam Black, Trevor Harmon and Ruy Vaz all put a shot on target in the first half but Texas Wesleyan goalkeeper Arturo Sanchez saved all three shots to keep the Stars off the scoreboard in the first half.
The Rams doubled their lead in the 53rd minute when David Hagen scored.
Harmon and Michael Shanahan put shots on goal in the 55th and 59th minutes, but Sanchez stopped both attempts.
O'Shea gave Texas Wesleyan a 3-0 advantage when he scored his second goal of the match in the 76th minute.
A.J. Dodson put a shot on frame 38 seconds later, but Sanchez made the save and gave Texas Wesleyan the 3-0 victory.
Senior goalkeeper Joe Shulberg played all 90 minutes in goal and made five saves for the Stars.
Seniors Black, Dillon Byrd, Trevor Harmon, Jalen Howard, Jimmy Irwin, Lorenzo Ontiveros and Shulberg all finished their OCU careers.
Black, a forward from Liverpool, England, scored 41 goals, passed out nine assists and was a three-time first-team all-SAC selection during his OCU career. He led the Stars this season with 15 goals and a career-high 34 points.
Byrd, a senior from Oklahoma City, appeared in 38 matches during his OCU career and made 18 starts. He started 17 matches in the middle of the OCU defense this season.
Harmon, a midfielder from Allen, Texas, scored 11 goals and passed out four assists in 56 matches and was named NAIA Scholar-Athlete and CoSIDA academic all-district in his four seasons with OCU. He scored four goals and tallied three assists this season for the Stars.
Howard, a goalkeeper from Oklahoma City, made 72 saves and 14 starts in 18 appearances during his OCU career. He made three saves and was credited with a win in his only appearance this season.
Irwin, a midfielder from Firsco, Texas, tallied 44 starts, one goal and one assists in 57 career matches and was named an NAIA Scholar-Athlete in four years at OCU. He scored one goal and appeared in 17 matches this season.
Ontiveros, a midfielder from Oklahoma City, joined the Stars this season and appeared in two matches.
Shulberg, a senior from Huntingdon, England, made 160 saves and notched six shutouts in 39 career appearances in his three seasons with the Stars. He made a career-high 81 saves and was named second-team all-SAC this season.
