OCU falls 103-60 to Texas A&M

MacKenzie leads Stars with 17 points, five assists

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Oklahoma City University fell 103-60 to Texas A&M in an exhibition game Sunday at Reed Arena.
The Stars, ranked No. 2 in NAIA women's basketball, had three players score in double figures including 17 points and five assists from senior Kayla MacKenzie but fell to the 13th-ranked team in NCAA Division I.
A layup from Yvonte Neal and a jumper from Markeisha Johnson got the Stars offense started in the first half.
MacKenzie buried a 3-pointer at the 15:29 mark and Autumn Lau hit from 3-point distance three times in the final five minutes of the period to lead the Stars' offense in the first half. Texas A&M led 53-31 at the break.
OCU shot 40 percent from behind the 3-point line in the half. The Stars' bench outscored the Texas A&M second unit 12-10 in the frame.
MacKenzie scored 10 of the Stars' first 11 points of the second half. OCU shot 10-of-14 from the free-throw line in second half, but couldn't keep up with Texas A&M and fell 103-60.
MacKenzie added three rebounds to her 17 points and five assists. Neal chipped in 13 points and four assists and Lau notched a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
The Stars will return to action in their second and final exhibition game of the season against Baylor at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Ferrell Center in Waco, Texas.
