Stars pound St. Gregory’s 9-0

OCU improves to 7-3 overall, 3-0 in SAC play

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University pounded St. Gregory's 9-0 Tuesday at Stars Field.
The Stars, ranked No. 22 in NAIA women's soccer, got a hat trick from freshman Makayla Braun and notched their largest margin of victory since Oct. 15, 2011 when OCU defeated St. Gregory's 9-0. With the win, the Stars improved to 7-3 overall and 3-0 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
Allie Glazner got the Stars on the scoreboard in the 12th minute when her shot from the midfield snuck past St. Gregory's goalkeeper Haylee Merrill to make the score 1-0.
In the 24th minute, Allison Worsham took a pass from Glazner and scored from the top of the box to stretch OCU's advantage to 2-0.
Braun scored her first goal of the match in the 42nd minute when she took a pass from Kailea Atkins and beat Merrill to make the score 3-0 at halftime.
Ariel Bayatfar scored her first goal of the season on a corner kick by Glazner in the 55th minute to move the OCU lead to 4-0.
Braun struck again when she took a cross from Bayatfar and scored in the 60th minute to give the Stars a 5-0 lead.
In the 70th minute, Atkins and Braun connected again and Braun scored to complete the hat trick and make the score 6-0.
Vanessa Mendoza corralled a loose ball that bounced off the cross bar and scored in the 75th minute to widen the Stars' lead to 7-0.
Meghan McMahon upped her career goal total to 69 when she took a pass from Braun and scored in the 86th minute to make the score 8-0.
Mendoza capped the scoring in the 86th minute when she netted her second goal of the match and gave OCU the 9-0 victory.
Senior goalkeepers Ashley Bechtold and Alissa Reed shared time in goal for the Stars. Reed got the start and made one save while Bechtold played the second the half.
OCU will return to action against Northwood (Texas) at 3 p.m. Saturday at Stars Field.
