Stars take third in Oklahoma City Duals

OCU wins 27-15 over Wayland Baptist in third-place dual

Brieana Delgado of OCU went 6-1 with two falls and four technical-fall wins in the Oklahoma City Duals.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University finished third place in the Oklahoma City Duals, defeating Wayland Baptist (Texas) 27-15 in the third-place dual on Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena.
OCU, ranked second in the Women's College Wrestling Association, won 35-10 over eighth-ranked Missouri Baptist and fell to third-ranked defending national champion Simon Fraser (British Columbia) 25-18.
The Stars ran their home-dual winning streak to 47 before Simon Fraser halted it. OCU had not lost at Abe Lemons Arena since Cumberlands (Ky.) won 24-19 on Nov. 10, 2007 in the Stars' first women's wrestling dual ever.
Against seventh-ranked Wayland Baptist, the Stars built a 17-0 advantage after Brieana Delgado's technical-fall win over Jesse Von Behren at 123 pounds.
At 116, Shelby Morrison pinned Kristin Navarrete in 1:26. Cody Pfau and Emily Webster had technical falls for the Stars.
OCU's Demi Strub won 5-0 over Valerie Rosales at 155 to stop Wayland Baptist's three-match win string. Sherese Thomas tacked on a technical-fall win 8-0 over Brenda Mendoza for the Stars.
Against Simon Fraser, Delgado's five-point move propelled her to a technical-fall win over Laura Anderson. OCU led 16-1 as Pfau, Webster and Kristi Garr had technical-fall victories.
Justina Distasio put Simon Fraser in front 22-17 with a fall. Jenna McLatchy clinched the Clan's win with a victory at 191.
Against Missouri Baptist, Delgado, Morrison and Thomas provided the Stars with pins.
OCU competes next in the Missouri Valley Duals on Nov. 15 in Marshall, Mo.
