OCU blanks Southwestern Christian 4-0

Stars stay unbeaten in SAC play

Alissa Reed and the OCU defense have not allowed a goal in conference play.

BETHANY, Okla. – Oklahoma City University blanked Southwestern Christian 4-0 Tuesday at Cagle Family Field.
The Stars, ranked No. 22 in NAIA women's soccer, notched their fifth straight shutout and improved to 9-3 overall and 5-0 in Sooner Athletic Conference action. OCU has not allowed a goal in conference play.
Vanessa Mendoza got the Stars on the scoreboard in the ninth minute when she took a pass from Meghan McMahon and found the back of the net to make the score 1-0.
Makayla Braun notched her fourth goal of the season when she got a ball from Allison Worsham and scored in the 73rd minute to give OCU a 2-0 advantage.
Four minutes later, Ariel Bayatfar stretched the Stars' lead to 3-0 when she beat Southwestern Christian goalkeeper Kiley Wells and scored her second goal of the season.
McMahon capped the scoring in the 90th minute with her 11th goal of the season to give OCU the 4-0 victory. With the goal, McMahon upped her career total to 71.
Senior goalkeepers Ashley Bechtold and Alissa Reed split time in goal for the Stars. Reed made the start and played the first half. Bechtold played the second half and made four saves.
The Stars will return to action against Oklahoma Baptist at 5 p.m. Oct. 22 at OBU Soccer Complex in Shawnee, Okla.
