Stars top Southwestern Christian 2-1

OCU moves to 2-1-2 in SAC

BETHANY, Okla. – Oklahoma City University edged Southwestern Christian 2-1 Tuesday at Cagle Family Field.
The Stars, now 5-4-2 overall and 2-1-2 in Sooner Athletic Conference play, got a pair of first-half goals from Ruy Vaz and held the Eagles' offense in check to stay unbeaten in four of their last five matches.
OCU jumped on top in the eighth minute when Vaz beat Southwestern Christian goalkeeper Richard O'Rourke and scored to give OCU a 1-0 advantage.
Vaz struck again in the 42nd minute when he got a pass from Adam Black and scored his eighth goal of the season to make the score 2-0 in favor of the Stars.
Southwestern Christian cut the Stars' lead to 2-1 in the 87th minutes when Svetislav Millic scored, but that was as close as the match would get and OCU held on to win 2-1.
Senior goalkeeper Joe Shulberg played all 90 minutes in goal for the Stars and made eight saves.
OCU will return to action against Southern Nazarene at 6 p.m. Saturday at Wanda Rhodes Soccer Complex in Bethany, Okla.
