OCU drops dual 36-6 to Central Oklahoma

Brown, Gomez win for Stars

EDMOND, Okla. – Oklahoma City University suffered a 36-6 setback to Central Oklahoma on Tuesday at Hamilton Field House in a matchup of top 10-ranked wrestling teams.
Michael Brown and Kidd Gomez accounted for the Stars' victories Tuesday. OCU, ranked sixth in the NAIA, fell to 6-7, while Central Oklahoma, ranked third in NCAA Division II, moved to 7-1.
Gomez, a senior from Noble, Okla., started the dual off with a 6-2 win over Ryan Brooks in the 125-pound match. Gomez, ranked eighth among NAIA 125-pounders, improved to 29-8 on the season.
Central Oklahoma responded with seven victories in a row. Five ranked individuals accounted for Central Oklahoma's wins. Jordan Basks, ranked second in NCAA Division II, knocked off OCU's Josh Stewart, ranked 10th in the NAIA, 17-0 in the 149-pound bout.
Cory Dauphin of Central Oklahoma upended Mark Meyer, the third-ranked 157-pounder in the NAIA, 6-0. Chris Watson, Division II's sixth-ranked 165-pounder, won by fall over Zach Skates, ranked third in the NAIA.
The Stars' Teagan Franco, ranked 11th at 174, fell 10-1 to Kelly Henderson, ranked fourth in NCAA Division II. Mitchell Eichenauer, ranked fifth in the NAIA at 184, lost 5-3 to fourth-ranked Tanner Keck.
Brown, a sophomore from Noble, Okla., broke the string for the Stars, prevailing 7-4 over Znick Ferrell. Brown, ranked sixth at 197 in the NAIA, upped his ledger to 27-9 this season.
Cody Dauphin, ranked eighth among Division II 285-pounders, completed the dual with a pin of OCU's Stanley Lattimore, ranked 14th in the NAIA.
The Stars compete next vs. Ouachita Baptist (Ark.) at 5 p.m., then Colorado State-Pueblo at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1 at Abe Lemons Arena.
