OCU takes second in NWCA National Duals

Stars make championship dual for sixth year in a row

Audrey Morehouse won twice Sunday.

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Oklahoma City University finished runner-up in the NWCA National Duals, falling 27-13 to Simon Fraser (British Columbia) on Sunday at the Prairie Capital Convention Center.
The Stars (17-3) reached the championship dual for the sixth year in a row with a 33-7 victory over Missouri Valley. OCU captured the past five NWCA National Duals championships.
Against Missouri Valley, Emily Webster at 101 pounds, Joey Miller at 116, Audrey Morehouse at 130 and Heather O'Connor at 191 picked up falls. OCU won the last four matches of the dual, increasing the Stars' lead from 19-7 to 33-7.
Stephanie Geltmacher defeated Frances Efiong 1-0, 5-0 at 143 pounds to touch off the Stars' string. Brittney Roberts won 1-0, 6-0 over Jordan Hagerman at 155, then Demi Strub knocked off Brittany Jones 6-0, 1-0 in the 170-pound bout.
O'Connor's 55-second pin of Tamara Hartfield at 191 pounds completed the dual.
Against Simon Fraser, Webster started the Stars off with a 6-0, 6-0 technical-fall win over Darby Huckle at 101. Simon Fraser picked up wins in the next four matches, building a 15-5 advantage.
OCU cut its deficit to 16-11. Morehouse prevailed 3-0, 4-0 over Laura Gordon in the 136-pound contest for the Stars. Then Geltmacher edged Sidney Morrison 1-0, 2-1 at 143 for OCU.
Simon Fraser clinched the title with a forfeit win and two more victories in the dual.
Simon Fraser snapped OCU's winning and unbeaten streaks Nov. 17 in the Harry Giese Duals at London, Ontario. Simon Fraser beat the Stars 22-10, halting OCU's 75-dual winning streak and a 91-dual unbeaten streak. OCU went 90-0-1 over the past four-plus seasons. Simon Fraser has given OCU all three of its losses this season.
The Stars has won the past four Women's College Wrestling Association championships. The WCWA Championships will be 9 a.m. Jan. 26 in Bristol, Tenn.
OCU faces Missouri Baptist at 6 p.m. Wednesday in St. Louis.
