Stars fall to Rogers State 3-1

OCU got a goal from Ryan Hunter but fell 3-1 in its SAC opener

CLAREMORE, Okla. – Oklahoma City University fell 3-1 in its Sooner Athletic Conference opener to Rogers State Friday at Soldier Field.
The Stars tied the match at 1-1 early in the second half, but conceded two unanswered goals to move to 5-2-3 on the season and 0-1 in SAC play.
Rogers State stuck first when Mohammed Shaban scored off a corner kick from Mitchell Sowerby in the 8th minute to make the score 1-0.
OCU drew level at 1-1 in the 46th minute when junior Adam Black passed to senior Ryan Hunter in the box, and Hunter beat Rogers State goalkeeper Nathan Inger to score his first goal of the season.
Shaban scored off another Sowerby corner kick in the 53rd minute and Rogers State regained the lead 2-1.
Hunter and fellow senior David Kamali each had scoring chances in the second half, but Inger stopped both attempts and kept the score at 2-1 in favor of the Hillcats.
Rogers State put the game out of reach in the 69th minute with Necas Collins headed the ball past junior goalkeeper Jalen Howard to make the final score 3-1.
Howard made six saves in 90 minutes of work between the posts.
OCU will return to action against Mid-America Christian at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Evangel Field in Oklahoma City.
