Stars stun Southern Nazarene 2-1 in overtime

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University snuck past Southern Nazarene 2-1 in overtime Tuesday at Stars Field.
The Stars got a clutch goal from junior Adam Black in the first overtime period to seal the win and stay unbeaten at 4-0-2 on the season. The forward from Liverpool, England, scored his sixth and seventh goals of the season against the Crimson Storm.
OCU got on the scoreboard in the first minute of the match when sophomore Kieran McLachlan's pass found Black who beat Southern Nazarene goalkeeper Blake Anderson to make the score 1-0.
Southern Nazarene evened the score at 1-1 when Javier Caballeros took a pass from Hajime Chumpitaz and scored in the 24th minute.
Senior David Kamali saw his header hit the post in the 35th minute and junior Trevor Harmon hit the cross bar in the 55th minute to keep the score at 1-1. McLachlan found the back of the net in the 61st minute but was called offside and the match went to overtime.
In the 98th minute, freshman Volney Richardson took a corner kick and found Black who headed the ball past Anderson and gave OCU the 2-1 victory.
Junior goalkeeper Joe Shulberg allowed one goal and made four saves in 98 minutes of action.
OCU outshot the Crimson Storm 29-10 on the night.
The Star will return to action against Texas Wesleyan at 7 p.m. Sept. 18 at Stars Field.
