Stars drop St. Gregory's 7-2

OCU scored seven runs on three long balls to move past the Cavaliers

Kale Gaden slugged his seventh home run of the season against St. Gregory's Thursday.
SHAWNEE, Okla. – Third-ranked Oklahoma City University dropped St. Gregory's 7-2 Thursday at Bill Nicklas Field.
The Stars, ranked No. 3 in NAIA baseball, got home runs from Miguel Beltran, Kale Gaden and Chris Muñoz to pick up the win and move to 26-6 overall and 14-2 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
Jonathan Sigado scored the game's first run on a St. Gregory's error in the top of the second inning. Later in the inning, Muñoz hit a three-run homer to right field to give OCU a 4-0 lead.
In the top of the third, Beltran and Gaden each hit solo blasts to put the Stars on top 6-1.
Beltran struck again in the top of the seventh with a solo home run to left to make the score 7-2 in favor of the Stars.
Reliever Patrick Goelz tossed a three up-three down bottom of the ninth to give OCU the 7-2 victory.
Rich Hawkins allowed two runs on seven hits and picked up the win to move to 8-1 on the year. The senior lefty struck out four in 6.2 innings of work.
Davis Henderson, Allen Townsend and Goelz all pitched in relief and combined to toss 2.1 scoreless innings.
Beltran finished 3-for-5 with a pair of solo home runs and Muñoz went 1-for-5 with three RBIs to lead OCU at the dish.
The Stars and Cavaliers will square off in a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday at Jim Wade Stadium.
