OCU ousts St. Gregory's 96-41

Top-ranked Stars move to SAC Tournament championship game vs. Southern Nazarene at 4 p.m. Saturday

Lauren Gober turned in 13 points and four rebounds while hitting four 3-pointers Friday.
SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. – No. 1-ranked Oklahoma City University overwhelmed St. Gregory's 96-41 on Friday at Bill George Arena in the Sooner Athletic Conference women's basketball tournament semifinals.
The Stars, top-ranked in NAIA Division I, advanced to the SAC Tournament championship against 16th-ranked Southern Nazarene at 4 p.m. Saturday. OCU improved to 29-1.
OCU advanced to the SAC Tournament title game for the 12th time in 13 years. OCU and Southern Nazarene square off for the league tournament championship for the seventh time in 19 tournaments.
OCU's previous tournament championships came in 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2010.
Tiffany Goldwire, a senior from Oklahoma City, posted her team-high fifth double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds for the Stars. Nicollette Smith, a senior from Tulsa, Okla., recorded 18 points and three rebounds, while Lauren Gober, a junior from Newcastle, Okla., added 13 points and four rebounds while sinking four 3-pointers.
Desiree Jeffries contributed 12 points, and Taylor Booze had 10 points, five rebounds and five assists for OCU.
“We are excited to be in the championship game,” OCU coach Rob Edmisson said. “The kids played great defense in the second half.”
OCU held St. Gregory's to nine second-half points. OCU narrowly missed breaking its women's basketball record for fewest points allowed in a half – the Stars limited Baptist Bible (Mo.) to seven in the first half of a 138-26 blowout on Nov. 13, 2010 at Abe Lemons Arena. Jalisa Howard scored with 4:47 remaining in the game to give St. Gregory's eight second-half points.
The Stars reeled off an 18-0 run early in the second half. St. Gregory's went without a point for 10:23, during which time OCU increased its advantage from 52-34 to 70-34.
Jeffries, who scored six points during that swing, capped the run with a bucket at the 8:25 mark.
In the first half, Gober nailed back-to-back treys to key a 9-0 OCU spree. The Stars increased its lead from seven points to 16. Goldwire hit a free throw to finish the run and put OCU ahead 34-18 with 7:38 to go in the first half.
OCU shot 52.2 percent from the field (35-for-67), while St. Gregory's managed 24.6 percent shooting (14-for-57). The Stars knocked down 63.3 percent of its shots in the second half, while St. Gregory's registered a 12.9 percent shooting percentage in the second.
