OCU rallies past Colorado State-Pueblo 24-19

Fifth-ranked Stars win fourth dual in a row to end 2011-12 regular season at 10-5

Kevin Hardy holds the No. 1 ranking in the NAIA at 165 pounds.

PUEBLO, Colo. – Oklahoma City University completed the dual season with a 24-19 victory over Colorado State-Pueblo on Wednesday at Massari Arena.
The Stars, ranked fifth in NAIA wrestling, overcame a 19-18 deficit entering the final two matches of the dual. OCU finished the regular season with four consecutive dual wins to end up 10-5.
Mitchell Eichenauer produced a 9-4 victory over Joe Giron at 197 pounds to put OCU in front 21-19. Michael Brown sealed the Stars' victory with a 6-2 win over Bill Gray at 285.
Adam Carey edged the Stars' Andrew Pontikes 3-2 at 184 to give Colorado State-Pueblo a 19-18 lead.
Before Carey's win, Derek Peperas handed OCU an 18-16 lead after a 12-2 victory over Trevor Grant at 174. Peperas completed a run of three consecutive OCU wins.
OCU dug itself out of a 12-point deficit. Colorado State-Pueblo captured three wins in a row – including two pins – to create a 16-4 advantage heading into the 157-pound bout.
Nik Turner halted OCU's losing string with a 10-2 win over Levi Jutila at 157. The Stars' Kevin Hardy followed by pinning Matt Addington in 39 seconds at 165.
Kidd Gomez staked OCU to a 4-0 lead by winning 13-5 over Tim Urenda at 125 pounds.
The Stars compete next in the NAIA Central Group Qualifying Tournament on Feb. 18 in Des Moines, Iowa.
