Southwestern notches comeback win 81-77 over OCU

Hall, Jeffries spearhead Stars with 18 points each

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Southwestern Oklahoma State rallied for an 81-77 victory over Oklahoma City University on Friday at Rankin Williams Fieldhouse in the Southwestern Oklahoma State Classic.
Southwestern seized the lead using Michelle Fisher's layup with 1:47 remaining in the game. The Stars, ranked 10th in NAIA Division I women's basketball, went to 1-1.
Katie Hall and Desiree Jeffries topped OCU with 18 points each. Hall, a senior from Hazelton, Idaho, grabbed a team-high seven rebounds and sank 7 of 12 shots from the field. Jeffries, a senior from Oklahoma City, added five rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Jessica Lankston, a senior from Kansas, Okla., provided OCU 15 points, six rebounds and two assists. Lauren Gober, a senior from Newcastle, Okla., scored nine points for the Stars.
Hall had two buckets and a rebound during an 8-0 run that put the Stars ahead 63-47 at the 10:54 mark for OCU's largest lead.
Southwestern chipped away at the Stars' advantage. Fisher canned a trey and a lay-in during a 9-0 Southwestern surge that cut OCU's lead to 71-70. Fisher nailed another 3 that tied the game 73-73, then another layup for the go-ahead points with 1:47 left. Fisher added a 3-pointer with 57 seconds showing.
Fisher had 23 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the floor off the bench for Southwestern.   
OCU faces Northeastern State, ranked 23rd in NCAA Division II, at 1 p.m. Saturday in Weatherford, Okla.
