OCU's Shulberg named NAIA defensive player of the week

Shulberg made nine saves against then-No. 3 USAO to help OCU to the SAC Tournament semifinals

Joe Shulberg made 45 saves for the Stars this season.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. Oklahoma City University's Joe Shulberg was named NAIA national men's soccer defensive player of the week Tuesday.
Shulberg is OCU's first NAIA men's soccer defensive player of the week since goalkeeper Andy Fitzpatrick earned the award in 2010.
Shulberg, a 6-foot-3 junior goalkeeper from Huntington, England, was key in a 1-1 draw to then-No. 3 USAO on Nov. 3. Shulberg made saves in the 17th, 23rd and 57th minutes to keep the match scoreless. He also made three saves in the final 10 minutes of regulation and three more in overtime to keep the game tied at one.
Shulberg continued to record pivotal saves during penalty kicks as he stopped two shots to lead the Stars to the Sooner Athletic Conference semifinals. For the game, Shulberg recorded nine saves in 110 minutes.
On the season, Shulberg is 5-2-3 overall with 45 saves and a 0.73 goals against average. He was named SAC defensive player of the week twice this season.
Shulberg was selected based on his performance from Oct. 29 - Nov. 4 and were chosen out of a pool of conference/independent/unaffiliated groupings.
