Stars' season ends with 2-0 loss at John Brown

OCU finished the season with a record of 8-7-4

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. – Oklahoma City University fell 2-0 to John Brown (Ark.) in the semifinals of the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament Tuesday at Alumni Field.
The loss ended the Stars season and moved their record to 8-7-4.
Junior goalkeeper Joe Shulberg, of Huntingdon, England, made five saves in the first half to keep John Brown off the scoreboard.
In the 45th minute, John Brown's Eli Simonsen took a free kick from 22 yards out and scored to put the Golden Eagles on top 1-0 at the half.
John Brown was given a penalty kick in the 49th minute. Simonsen took advantage and beat Shulberg to make the score 2-0.
Freshman Daniel Yeom and junior Jimmy Irwin put shots on goal in the 54th and 71st minutes, but John Brown goalkeeper Pablo Garcia saved both attempts to keep OCU off the scoreboard.
Yeom and fellow freshman Volney Richardson each had attempts on goal stopped by Garcia in the closing minutes of the match.
Shulberg finished the match with seven saves in 90 minutes of action.
Seniors Taylor Craig, Nathan Doll, Ryan Hunter, David Kamali, Daniel Kapple, Trevor Rush and Drew Tonseth all finished their OCU careers.
Craig, a defender from Tomball, Texas, played one season at OCU. The transfer started all 19 matches for the Stars this season, contributed to six shutouts and passed out an assist.
Doll, a defender from Tulsa, Okla., scored three goals and passed out eight assists in 62 career matches for OCU. The senior started all 19 matches this season and record two assists.
Hunter, of Tulsa, Okla., started 18 matches this season, scored three goals and tallied two assists. The midfielder scored 12 goals and passed out seven assists in 74 career matches with OCU.
Kamali, a defender from Sachse, Texas, appeared in 18 matches and scored a goal this season. Kamali started 35 career matches for OCU.
Kapple, a defender from Oklahoma City, made five appearances for the Stars this season. Kapple started five matches a season ago and made 21 career appearances for OCU.
Rush played in three games this season. The midfielder, from Oklahoma City scored one goal in 12 career matches.
Tonseth made two appearances for the Starts this season. The defender from Oklahoma City passed out two assists in six career matches.
